Kit used for lifting people, and the accessories that go with it, must be thoroughly examined at least every six months under the Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998. For most examiners that means paper forms, spreadsheets and a diary to remember who is due next.
LOLA brings that together. Each client has their own kit register and examination history, every report comes out in the same clear format, and the due date list tells you who to contact before their kit falls out of date.

The duty holder is the one who has to prove their kit is in date, whether it is a site manager, an insurer or an HSE inspector asking. Too often the only record is a PDF or spreadsheet attached to an email from months ago.

Built around LOLER 1998
LOLA was designed from the regulations out, not adapted from a general checklist app. Every report is laid out against Regulation 9 and Schedule 1 of the Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998, so nothing the report must contain is left to memory.
The examiner still makes the call on every item. LOLA makes sure that decision is recorded properly, reported in full and followed up.
LOLA supports examiners and duty holders in meeting their duties under LOLER. The duties themselves stay with the competent person and the duty holder, as the regulations intend.
What every LOLA report covers
- The Schedule 1 particulars. Duty holder, equipment identification, safe working load, the dates of this and the last examination, the next due date, defects, and the examiner's details including employment status.
- The right interval. Six months for kit used to lift people and for accessories, twelve months for other lifting equipment, or the date set by an examination scheme.
- Imminent risk flagged. Items that are or could become a danger are listed separately, marked not to be used, with the Regulation 10 wording on notifying the enforcing authority.
- Kept as issued. A completed examination cannot be edited or deleted. Any change goes through a recorded correction.
- Held in the UK. Data is stored in London, and each company only ever sees its own clients and records.
